Man Utd legend Ruud van Nistelrooy returned to the club in a coaching capacity in July 2024 and is in charge at Old Trafford on an interim basis until Ruben Amorim takes over as Erik ten Hag’s successor on November 11
When Ruben Amorim takes over as Manchester United’s “connector,” the players want Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay because they value the way he has interacted with them.
There is strong support to retain the 48-year-old at Carrington in some role until his tenure as temporary manager concludes, according to Sky Sports News.
Together with every member of the first-team operations staff, Van Nistelrooy is admired by United’s leadership group for his demeanor.
Although the composition of Amorim’s backroom staff has not yet been decided, the new head coach wants to bring in five of his Sporting colleagues, including his longtime assistants Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes, as well as the seasoned Emanuel Ferro, who serves in that capacity.
It is difficult to see how Van Nistelrooy, who is under contract as an assistant manager, could still play that role if they were to join.
Beyond Van Nistelrooy, there is also a strong desire for Darren Fletcher, currently first-team coach, to remain under Amorim.
Having followed the same path as a United player, making over 300 appearances and winning 13 trophies in 20 years, he has been an excellent bridge between the academy and main squad.
A source stated: “The work Fletcher does may not be the spotlight, but it has been important.”
